Why willow is the ultimate in environmental recycling
|
| |
-
Salix is the latin word for willow, there are about 400 species of willow in the Salix family.
The willow used for manufacturing is a deciduous shrub grown in crowns or small bushes, Willow is very fast growing and one cut grows back to the same height within a year. Each crown can last upto sixty years before it needs replanting.
-
In the right soil conditions willow tends to decompose much more quickly than traditional materials such as MDF, Hardwoods and Metal.

-
willow has many uses and attributes which help the environment, willow is used for:
biofiltration, constructed wetlands, ecological wastewater treatment, hedges, land reclamation, landscaping, bio engineering, slope stabilisation, soil erosion control.
In addtion willow is a very important habitat to many birds and animals.

-
There is little mechanical processing involved in the growing and processing of willow, making it one of the few truly environmentally renewable resources.
-
We believe that our coffins are the ultimate in environmental recycling as willow is a higly renewable crop harvested each year, involves minimal processing, degrades quickly in soil and helps to lock carbon up in its stems.
