What we are doing to support the Woodland Trust?

As part of The Somerset Willow Company's support to the Woodland Trust the company has dedicated a quarter acre of woodland at Loxley Wood, Shapwick, Somerset to symbolise the company's increasing awareness of the environment and showing a commitment to maintain traditional woodland throughout the U.K.

The Somerset Willow Company's donation will help to preserve part of Loxley wood in years to come and prevent it from being destroyed or removed in the future.

Loxley woods lies on a gentle north slope of the polden hills between Bridgwater and Street on the north side of the A39.

The woodland is almost entirely an Ancient Woodland Site, coniferised in 1967. It was formerly mixed broadleaf woodland, largely oak/hazel, with records showing an actively managed past.

The Woodland Trust has a vision. A UK rich in native woods and trees enjoyed and valued by everyone.

The Woodland Trust believe:

there should be at least twice as much native tree cover in the UK
there should be no further loss of any ancient woodland
every child should have a chance to plant a tree
there should be a wood with open access close to everyone’s home
everyone should recognise that trees and woods are an essential part of a healthy environment

The Woodland Trust aim to enable the creation of more native woods and places rich in trees; protect native woods, trees and their wildlife for the future and inspire everyone to enjoy and value woods and trees.
